Terry Sanford remains perfect and advances to Regional Finals behind 35 points from Chris Wilson
All was going well for the New Hanover Wildcats late in the 2nd quarter. The Wildcats were ahead by 9 points and on the verge of closing out a riveting half, in which they shot just under 52%. Instead of finishing the quarter out strong, New Hanover allowed Terry Sanford to go on a 5-0 run headed into intermission.
The run before the break energized the Bulldogs, as they came out in the 3rd and continued to chip away at the New Hanover lead. With 2:47 left in the 3rd, Terry Sanford took their first lead of the 2nd half when Robert Carpenter scored on a reverse lay up. After trading some baskets, New Hanover led 46-44 going into the final period.
The 4th belonged to the Bulldogs as they took a 52-50 advantage on consecutive baskets from Carpenter who finished with 9 points and an equal number of rebounds. As Terry Sanford turned up the heat, New Hanover could not seem to find the bottom of the net, scoring only 12 in the 4th.

In the decisive stretch, junior Terry Sanford guard Chris Wilson was amazing. Wilson got into the lane over and over hitting the lefty floater. When he wasn’t hitting floaters, he was hitting free throws, going 13 for 14 in the game. Wilson put in an efficient 35 points on 10 of 15 from the floor.
Terry Sanford was the beneficiary of aggressive play, with 28 attempts from the free throw line. The Bulldogs converted 23 of those attempts, 14 more than the Wildcats attempted. Junior Wildcat guard Freddie Jackson was impressive in the 67-58 loss with 18 points and 10 assists.
Center Cole Daley had 13 points and 7 rebounds in the contest. Senior forward Jordan Vann filled up the stat sheet for Terry Sanford with 11 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 steals to go along with 3 assists.
The Bulldogs will face Riverside on Saturday at 5pm with a trip to the state championship on the line.
