Jordan has no answers for top ranked Riverside
Friday January 15, 2010
#1 Riverside had to hold off a late charge from #13 Hillside earlier this week to remain undefeated in the PAC-6. Tonight it looked like they came out with something to prove to the PAC-6 and anyone else who think they can topple one of the Triangle’s top teams.
The Pirates faced a quality challenge in PAC-6 foe #6 Jordan. The Falcons came in riding a three game winning streak. During the span of recent victories, Joreal Bennett averaged 20 points.

Ironically, the Falcons last win coming into tonight was also versus Hillside, whom the handily beat by 19. That only goes to show that one cannot predict the outcome of a matchup based on performances versus mutual opponents.
In every period but the 1st, Riverside totally dominated, on their way to a 84-68 victory. At times in the 2nd half, the Pirates were up by more than 30 points.

Jordan opened up by attacking the Riverside zone and rebounding well enough to be down only 18-14 after the opening quarter. Things quickly changed after that point.
Riverside used their guard quickness to create, as well as, pinpoint outside shooting to outscore Jordan 27-8 in the 2nd quarter. The Falcons were met by a Pirate every time they made it into the paint and for the most part held to one possession each time down the court.

When they weren’t scoring in transition, the visitors were finding good shots in the halfcourt and converting. By the 4th quarter the most competitive thing going was a flip contest between the opposing cheerleaders.
The Riverside defense kept Bennett in check, holding the guard to 10 points. No Jordan player scored more than 11 points(TJ Thorpe 11, Thomas Sumpter 10, Devin McArthur 10, Jamal Bowden 10).

Super soph TJ Warren of Riverside led all scorers with 19 points. Once again Jarod Belvin and Sean Deniton showed their perimeter scoring punch with 16 and 14 points respectively. Tim Raven also played an excellent floor game with 8 points, key rebounds, a few steals, and passes that kept the offence efficient.
