Back in the 06-07 season Yorel Hawkins was leading the Apex Cougars to another conference championship, what is he up to these days......

In that inaugural season for Trianglehoops.net, Hawkins won the first ever Most Impressive Player of the Year Award, averaging 24 points and 10 rebounds.  Hawkins made a name for himself in the Tri-8(now Tri-9), by leading the Cougars to three consecutive conference championships.  Hawkins is still the leading scorer in Cougar history, amassing nearly 1,500 points.

Hawkins accepted a scholarship to play for the Fairfield Stags of the Mid Atlantic Athletic Conference.  During his time in Fairfield, Connecticut, the 6’5” junior forward’s contribution has increased every season as he developed.

This season Hawkins has emerged as one of the best players in the MAAC.  He leads the team in scoring and shooting percentage, 15.7ppg and 51% respectively.  He is number two on the team in rebounding(5.7) and third in assists.  The Stags are currently #2 in the conference behind Siena and are eyeing a NCAA tournament berth.  The Apex native has started every game he played in this season, after missing the first three games due to injury.

Should the Stags make a run in the MAAC tournament and make it to the big dance it will be due in large part to Hawkins’ efforts.
