Four point third quarter does in Jordan
Wednesday February 24, 2010
Things started out well enough for the visiting Jordan Falcons. Coach Kim Annas’s squad was shooting the jumper well, getting some baskets in transition, converting free throw attempts, and getting to loose balls despite being undersized.
Jordan went 8 of 13 from the line in the 2nd quarter to take a 30-29 lead into the break. From the opening tip, Millbrook looked to go inside and Donzell Hill and Tyrrel Tate answered the bell. The two Wildcat forwards combined for 19 points in the 1st half.

At the half, Wildcat coach Scott McInnes must have gotten into someone’s ear. Millbrook came out of intermission pulling down nearly every rebound and attacking the paint with even more passion. It was Hill inside for two, followed by a Jarrick Brown three, then Tate scoring in transition, all part of a 9-0 Millbrook run to start the 3rd quarter. Jordan’s first bucket came with 33.3 seconds remaining in the period, as they saw a one point lead turn into a ten point deficit by the start of the 4th quarter.

Throughout the 4th, Millbrook kept an 8-10 point cushion and forced Jordan to implement a 2-1-2 fullcourt press halfway thru. The press left some lanes open and the Wildcats capitalized, pushing the lead to 15 points. The Falcons hit a couple of late treys to make the score more respectable, but could get no closer than seven points.
With the 63-52 win Millbrook moves on to the NCHSAA Sectional Finals to host conference foe Broughton Friday. Tate led all scorers with 19 points, Hill had 16 points, and Brown added 13 points. TJ Thorpe was the high man for Jordan with 16 points.
