Leslie keeps Word of God/Trianglehoops.net tradition going with 09/10 M.O.P.Y.

Monday April 5, 2010

Since starting at Holly Springs High as a 9th grader, CJ Leslie has been getting tons of warranted attention and racking up awards to boot.  The Word of God senior is coming off a strong showing the 33rd annual McDonald’s All-American Game.  Leslie is this season’s M.O.P.Y. with averages of 23 points, 12 rebounds, and four blocks per game.  His inside/outside game helped send the Holy Rams to three consecutive state championships, winning two in a row.

Leslie has grown physically and emotionally since this photo from his sophomore year

Despite this season ending earlier than expected, Leslie showed growth and maturity in his game and approach to the game.

Leslie is undecided on his plans for the next level, but NC State, Kentucky, Florida, and Oregon being tops on the list.  The 6’8” forward has the skills to play down low in college, but is better suited on the wing where his height, explosiveness, and ball handling ability make him a match up nightmare.  Word of God teammate Dezmine Wells was also a finalist for the M.O.P.Y., as was Neuse Christian's Terry Henderson.

John Wall and CJ Leslie were teammates at Word of God and now share honors as M.O.P.Y. winners

This marks the third consecutive year a Word of God player has won the M.O.P.Y.

Past Winners:
